Nancy Alexander, Painter
Vibrant color, melodic movement, impressionistic, and a dash of graphics best describes the expressive contemporary painting style of Nancy Alexander. Using her honed design skills, her love of dance movements, and being the fourth generation Baker family artists, Nancy has brought all of these traits to her body of artwork.
Color is the first element that inspires me to create a painting. Next, I investigate the possibilities of graphics and composition. Starting with a culmination of ideas and images, I start mixing them up in my thoughts like solving a three-dimensional puzzle. Guided by my instincts, I navigate through a layering process using vivid colors, textures, and injecting a sense of movement. Using acrylic paint on canvas, I am able to add gel mediums that add interesting organic and textural qualities to my art. It’s the process of creating on a hunch of an idea, and the adventure of what each painting will turn out to be in the end that is most exciting to me when I paint. My art reflects my positive and adventurous nature. It’s bright, it’s energizing, it’s alluring.
